Yes indeed!
God, I love that illustration!

I noticed that the kaiyodo figure has the same "pooch" as the medicom 12" figure...
could it be that what we perceived to be a bad rubber suit was just trying to stay true to the original representations of the character? -- I mean at first glance it almost feels as if they used the medicom 12" as a source of reference because of that little belly -- but it now seems that the illustration -- based on costume pics are now implying that that they are trying to mimic "the man in a suit" look -- which in Japan is prevalent esp w godzilla toys -- whether it is "suitmation" wrinkles or the "zippered" back

I'm quite sure that Medicom wanted to achieve the actual "man-in-a-suit" look, there's no other reason why they should do the figure as they have. I mean, it's not like you can't hide the elbow or knee articulation without having to resort to making it a suit.
From what I can see in the pics, it looks like they mimicked the construction of the suit perfectly, with the glaring exception of the feet.
There's a wonderful photo of the suit hanging in the workshop in Giger's Alien book and you can see how the suit was worn: shoes, pants, vest, sleeves and gloves. The Medi-alien seems to be constructed in almost the exact same fashion.

Wow... just, WOW. Yeah, I'm so getting one of these. I don't tend to go for the Revoltech stuff much, if at all (I have a Revy from Black Lagoon and that's pretty much it), but this baby right here is a thing of beauty for sure. VERY impressed. Will be curious to see how the completed joints play out on the final product, but if this is their initial direction thus far, I'd say they're on the right track. yes

BLACK LAGOON? CREATURE? or are you referring to an anime?

All I have are the Megatron, Optimus Prime (Convoy), Starscream, and  Hot Rod(imus)

It's an anime (based on the manga). And a very good one, too. (one of the only recent few - anime overall has been on life-support lately, IMO)

I haven't seen SST carry any Revoltech stuff, I think this is one of those import from Japan type of toys...
And from what I know of Revoltech stuff (admittedly not much) it will come painted and articulated.

No news on this dude?
I recently bought one of Revoltech's EVAs, just for fun, and man, it is a fantastic figure! Just so much fun to play and pose!
I can't wait to see what the alien will be like.

come to think of it -- it seems as if the x-plus statue was based on this pic -- the proportions are the same and the characteristic ribbing and thickness of the elliptical edges of the muscled areas look

Yeah, there's some definate similarities between this and the Medicom Alien.

The Revoltech Alien sculpt seems to be based on this artwork done for the 3 ft. Alien puzzle...

I think it's just the pose -- cuz if you look at the details - they don't match -- the x-plus statue -- which was remade into the vinyl by Sega, on the other hand (rather it was developed by x-plus for sega, then used for the metal statue by x-plus)
looks almost exactly like the artwork down to the crooked ribbing and muscle portions -- if memory serves me correctly
