I just got charged from Hollywood Collectibles for their new Space Jockey Maquette. Here's the thing - I've never seen any shots of the actual piece. I'm excited to see it and compare it to other Jockey's in my collection (I actually have a resin pull from Giger's original plasticine model and a casting prototype from the large Palisades vesion). Anyone got pics of this thing?

I want to like this statue, but I just can't. It's so...drab. And there seems to be a serious lack of detail in the sculpt of the creature. Granted it's hard to tell for sure since there are no close-ups, but it doesn't look detailed from the angles they've shown us in these pics.

Well - I'll know soon enough. I have high hopes that they corrected the paint application during production, but who knows? The sculpt looks nice, but the base may be overkill. Fingers crossed...

Got mine last night. It's huge - the base is like 18" in diameter. It also weighs about 30 lbs. However, the sculpt is soft on the jockey and the paint app is pretty poor. It's probably worth the $250, but only because of the size. I much prefer my Palisades prototype. Te HCG is VERY similar to my casting of the original Giger maquette (cast from the plasticene model), which means it's rough and soft in detail. I can't say I'm overly impressed with this one - I'll probably hang on to it, but not entirely sure. I'll post pics later.

Thanks for the reply, Scott. I was hoping the promotional images were holding back on us, but it sounds as if they were not.
I'll check back later for those photos.

Yeah, I'm definately interested in seeing "in hand" pics of this as well. And if you could Scott, would you take some comparison shots with your other Jockeys?

I've snapped some pics and will load them up tonight. I also wrote HCG and told them I was less than impressed with the product. They wrote back and said it was cast off of the original maquette and the softness was inherant to the original sculpture. I have written them back to confirm this. While the HCG piece looks alot like my casting off of the Plasticene maquette, that casting is very old and probably a 10th generation casting. Who knows?

Cool, I'm looking forward to your pics Scott.
If you can, let's see this next your plasticene copy.
I'd love to see some comparison shots.

Ok - pics coming tonight. Sorry for the delay. Also, I received a message from HCG confirming the maquette was cast off the original. He referred me to a page in Giger's Alien - I'll have to confirm later.

Can you post pics of your other jockies to show? I tend to agree with everyone so far, its lacking in the paint and detail dept!

I think it's fine. Actually, I'd say it is too clean. Some dry brusing would be good to to add some varying colors & "dust" it up a bit. Make some scratch marks here and there & it'd be sweet!

The more I look at it, the more it grows on me. The sculpture is adequate (not nearly as detailed as the Pali interpretation). I do think the base overwhelms the sculpt, though. It's just massive - like 20" across.

Great pics (* Tril - awesome post dude! *) - but $hitty paint job - I have to say - am NOT impressed with the stuff HCG have created so far ...... (P1 bio anyone?) - really hope that P2 disc weapon turns out as good as the review on Statue Forum looks! http://www.statueforum.com/showthread.php?t=82003But then Cinemaquette's quality control puts THEM in the same bucket - WHO would have thought that Sideshow would be "King of the hill" come 2009? - lol .
