Hey my dear Hivers,

I know, it has been a looooooooooooooong time. But life and wife (LOL) takes it times and so many personal projects are allways a bit on hold. Thatīs how it goes. And everybody knows.... ;)

So, me was a bit bussy lately and I have proceeded working on my CG Alien warrior from Aliens (as allready teasered in my Queen topic end of last year)

without wasting any more words, please take a look and pleas, please be hard on me. I mean, Iīm open to any kind of critics and comments, so I can do the best I can and even faster continue the next steps. That means the high details, structures and colors etc.

Enjoy and stay tuned for moooore to come!

cheers

Markus

Wow!
That looks fantastic!

But I'm going to be real anal and critique it...

There's two things that I (if I had the talent to do something as awesome as that) would do differently.
I think the overall look is too "shapely" and not stick-like enough. I've always viewed aliens as being reed-thin and with no discernible "muscles". And I think the neck is too long. The Aliens xenos had that "hunched" look going on.

Anyway, awesome work man, congrats!

Amazing!! Well done dude!

I personally think that the neck is fine, not too long, it only seems shorter in the movies because the actors wearing the costume can never look like the actual design and sketch...Most warrior figures have long necks..Unless if I am wrong...

What makes me quite curious is the colour shade...will you base it on blue, dark brown or close to black?

I am not a big fan of the blue warriors but then again its only an opinion. I think whatever colour you pick will look stunning!

Guys, many, many thanks for your kind words. I highly appreciate.

Dave, I really hope to get you fully satisfied with this model ;) As for reference. I never owned the Palisades full warrior. Strange, after collecting all the busts of Pali, I only bought the Predator 2 on the eagel pedestal, as well as the Space Jockey.

So as main reference I used a bit the Halcyon styrin Warrior kit, but mainly a hell of photo reference and screenshots from the movie. As there was never a finite design, because the actors wore only spandexsuits with design elements from the initial drone applied and the animatronic puppet, which was only built as bust without legs, has a bit different neck as well as the Queenīs small arms (very good to be seen in the Stan Winston book. LOL. they just bashed the Fullsize Queen), I tried to go along with Gigers shapes of the main sculpt (making of to be seen on the Quadrilogy DVD) and my own feeling for the proportion.

Abake, as I said, I tried to find the best shapes, to give it an "Alien" look and to avoid to much humanoid feeling. You are so right, that the have to look stick-like and have no defined muscle anatomy. I changed the leg shape a bit (makes more sense in the next update pictures) to get a bit rid of the muscle leg feeling. Many thanks for that advise. Anyway, when I put the model in the next program to define the high details, it will look much more boney and overall sharped out.

As for the neck; yes you are right in this pose it seems to be to long. Remind, that this is the zero-Pose. So the whole mesh has to straitend as possible, to avoid pinching and counter-streching of the textures and the mesh when posed later. You will see, how creepy hunched he will crawl around the corner in the end ;)

Nostromo, I have not decided what color scheme it will get. Anyway, itīs not so much needed, as the Alien has an overall color-scheme, which can allways be adjusted then. But I willl not go for a candy blue  roll on floor laugh

Again, thanks my fellow Hivers an beware the next transmission....

Thanks, thanks, thanks!

But donīt worry, I will not rest on the laurels which I was given ;)

So me was a bit bussy at the weekend and I have tweaked the mouth and mandibles-tendons area, and I added the inner mouth-tongue.

Enjoy and have a very nice week.

Guys...many, many thanks for the praises and the flowers  smile   I highly appreciate and happy you like what you see.

Took time again, because of life and wife  roll on floor laugh  and less funny, because of some nice file error recently, what nearly killed the warrior...Yes, CG is fun...and sometimes you age for years in seconds (beside some partial heart failure dead dude)....

But guess what, I got it done with victorious hail and blood stained sword (ok, ok. A bit dramatized, but sounds good ;) )

So here a quick test shot to bridge the waiting time for more to come.

Enjoy

Cheers

only thing i could spot that wasn't 'right' was the shaping inbetween the ribs that run down the length of the head.

Yours it too 'smooth', theres a very distinct 'shape' inbetween each head rib (the big reference pic of the upper body maquette from the films shows this best.

Other than that...  jaw drop

Guys, thanks alot and again Iīm very happy that I got your attention and a few seconds of your lifetime ;)

Danno, a print would be killer. If I got a few $ left I will do one. But I guess, it will be unposed and in several parts. So I can re-detail afterwards and make it kitlike poseable like I want.

Guyver, many thanks and you are right. I think you refer now to the picture which shows the head from the side. I fixed this area allready a bit. It is the pushing of the bumpmap what makes it to "round". Will look there again, so many thanks for the sharp eyes.

Reverend, thans mate but no. If it would be, I wouldnīt continue working on it  roll on floor laugh  But wait what will come ;)
